the magpie blog wants you to take something away after reading it.
The Magpie Blog is the work of Hong Kong-based high school student Catherine Hu. Her work has been published in The WEIGHT Journal, Jardin Zine and the 2021 Hong Kong Young Writers’ Award Anthology.

get to know me:
The Magpie Blog was born from the incredibly gratifying feeling of seeing my work displayed after years keeping my writing hidden in my Notes App (as we Gen-Z writers tend to do nowadays.) To me, this site is an amalgamation of a blog, notebook, bookshelf, and a peek into my brain — welcome down the rabbit hole!
I would describe my writing style as figurative and descriptive, but also balanced. I primarily like to write poetry as an emotional outlet, but I also love to write a good analytical essay or a creative non-fiction piece. Some of my inspirations and favourite authors are Sylvia Plath, Haruki Murakami, and Madeline Miller.
Outside of my literary endeavours, I’m an avid musician and painter. You’ll often find me at the piano, or at an easel with a paintbrush in hand!
